This app is the best free note taking app I have ever tried so far. It competes with some of the major paid apps in the market. It was recently acquired by the company http://www.nuance.com/ – the developer of Dragon Naturally Speaking and OmniPage softwares.

You can use this app to type, write, and record voice. The notes and audio recordings are automatically saved in its own Docs Folder, which can be organized in subfolders and pages. You can also delete notes or pages if desired, bookmark the pages that you create, as well as search for any content in a note or page.

It has the capability to import or insert files (pdf, ppt, jpg, txt) and pages from cloud based apps such as Dropbox, Box.net, as well as from its own Docs Folder, other file viewing apps, and iPad’s web browser. This app’s strength also lies in its capability to save as pdf+audio file in its Docs Folder, cloud print, backup as pdf file and share your note via email, Dropbox, Box.net, Google Docs, iBooks, iTunes, and in a similarly named app called Paperport Anywhere, which gives 1 GB of free space with free signup. It can also send your files to other note creating/editing apps installed in your iPad (such as iAnnotate).

Last but not least, I think that all the above mentioned functionalities, which most free apps don’t have, are the necessary tools in creating any course material using iPads. This app is a steal If you need a free note-taking app that your students can use in and out of classroom very easily.
