One Review for 60 Second Word Challenge App

  1. Nalini Malhotra says:
    User friendliness
    Educational value
    Interactivity
    Language appropriate for ESL students
    Student reporting and tracking
    App performance

    What you like about it?
The questions are well written for each level, precise and to the point to extract the required answer. Points are subtracted for wrong and answers not given within the time limit, encouraging one to read faster.

What you don’t like about it?
For the variety of topics, no word lists seem to be available detailing the lexis used at each level. The format is clearly for an iPhone as opposed to an iPad and finally, but I believe most importantly our ESL learners would have to possess almost native speaker reading speed skills in order to read the questions and look at the four possible answers within the given time limit.

How would you use this app with your students?
The teacher could perhaps do all the tests first to build up lists of lexis used and then use the app to review vocab presented.

    Review

Overall, it’s a fun app, but requires near native speaker reading speeds to be able to obtain a high score and answer the question within the given time limit. Additionally, it shows one’s results with explanations of what the correct word should be for that question.
